Abstract

Changes in the levels of protein and free amino acids in the haemolymph of three selected silkworm breeds viz., SKAU-R-1, SH-6 and NB4D2, fed with selected mulberry varieties like Ichinose (control), Goshoerami (uniformly the best), and Kokuso-20 (least productive) were investigated in 4^th moult, and 5^th instar larval development during spring and summer seasons. The protein levels in haemolymph were lower at moult in all the three races but the levels showed a sharp increase upon resumption of feeding. The mean levels of protein irrespective of seasons were relatively higher in larvae of SKAU-R-1(44.97 mg/ml) followed by NB4D2 (44.35 mg/ml) and SH6 (42.48 mg/ml). Haemolymph free amino acid levels decreased during 5^th instar from the level observed at 4^th moult. The mean free amino acid level for the entire 5^th instar larval stage in both seasons was relatively higher in NB4D2 (4.55 mg/ml) followed by SKAU-R-1 (4.25 mg/ml) and SH6 (4.17 mg/ml). Free amino acid levels dropped through the 5^th instar larval development in all the three races. The changes in the haemolymph protein and free amino acid levels were observed from different base levels in the larvae feeding on different mulberry varieties. Racial differences in the haemolymph protein and free amino acid contents were observed during both seasons in relation to mulberry nutrition being higher in larvae feeding on the foliage of Goshoerami than Ichinose and Kokuso-20.

In this paper one of the basic techniques of sampling namely simple random sampling has been used utilizing R software keeping in view the importance of this technique in agricultural surveys. Apple data taken from district Ganderbal of Kashmir valley is taken. Function SRSWOR(Y,N) using R software is developed; also different graphics are presented.

Abstract

In this article we have proposed some ratio estimator for the study variable based on the linear combination of known values of Co-efficient of Skewness and Median of the auxiliary variable utilizing Rank set sampling and Simple random sampling are proposed. Mean squared error up to the first degree of approximation are derived. The proposed ratio estimators under rank set sampling perform better than the proposed ratio estimators under simple random sampling. The simulated study has been carried out in support of the results.

Abstract

The present study was conducted in Anantnag, Bandipora, Baramulla and Ganderbal districts of J.&K. After reconnaissance, survey was conducted and two plantation blocks of willow were selected in each district. Analysis of the data revealed that Salix albawas the dominant species with individualistic density of 81.90 % and IVI of 213.80. The existing stem volume, biomass production, carbon density and carbon sequestration potential of trees at all the selected locations were evaluated. The maximum and minimum stem volume of 739.34 and 595.09 cum ha^-1 was recorded at Bandipora and Anantnag districts. The biomass production varied from 429.27 Mg ha^-1 in Anantnag to 532.61 t ha^-1 in Bandipora. The maximum soil carbon density of 68.07 t ha^-1 was recorded at Bandipora, followed by 67.93 t ha^-1 at Baramulla, 66.86 t ha^-1 at Ganderbal and 66.43 t ha^-1 at Anantnag.

Abstract

This article deals with the problem of finding an optimal allocation of sample sizes in stratified sampling design to minimize the cost function. In this paper the iterative procedure of Rosen’s Gradient projection method is used to solve the Non linear programming problem (NLPP), when a non integer solution is obtained after solving the NLPP then Branch and Bound method provides an integer solution.

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate a Transportation problem which is a special kind of linear programming in which profits; supply and demands are considered as Intuitionistic triangular fuzzy numbers. The crisp values of these Intuitionistic triangular fuzzy numbers are obtained by defuzzifying them and the problem is formulated into linear programming problem. The solution of the formulated problem is obtained through LINGO software. If the obtained solution is non-integer then Branch and Bound method can be used to obtain an integer solution.

Abstract

The experiment was conducted during 2005-2006 at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural sciences and Technology of Kashmir India to study the combined effect of nitrogen (0,75,150 Kg ha^-1), phosphorus (0,50,100 kg ha^-1) and bio-fertilizers (No inoculant, Azotobacter sp., Bacillus sp., Pseudomonas sp., Glomus sp.) on soil physicochemical properties and micro nutrient availability in strawberry growing soils. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized design (factorial) with 45 treatment combinations and 5 replications. Significantly lower pH (6.44) from T₁₇, T₁₉, T₃₃, electrical conductivity (0.62 dsm^-1) from T₃ and higher organic carbon (0.97%) from T₂₈, T₃₈ and T₄₂ were recorded. Zinc availability was not significantly influenced by any treatment. Treatments T₄₃ and T₄₄ recorded significantly higher available copper content (0.85 ppm). Significantly higher available manganese (50.20 ppm) and iron (45.01 ppm) was recorded from the treatment T₄₄.

Abstract

Optimum plot shape and size of plot has been worked out from uniformity trial on S-II variety of tomato. Maximum curvature method, Fair-field Smith’s variance law was used for the purpose. A plot of 8 m2 (4m x 2 m) was found to be optimum for S-II variety of tomato grown at RRS and FOA Wadura Campus, SKUAST-K. The trial indicated that coefficient of variation decreased with increase in plot size in either direction, but decrease was more in north-south direction than east-west direction. The shape of plot has been found to have very little influence on variability within the range of plot size considered.

Abstract

Use of auxiliary information in survey sampling plays important role in getting more precision for estimating population parameters. Thus it has now become indispensable to use auxiliary information, thus in this paper we propose new modified ratio estimators by using the auxiliary information of non conventional location measures, non conventional measures of dispersion, quartile average, decile mean and their linear combinations for estimating population variance. The properties associated with proposed estimators are assessed by mean square error, bias and compared with existing estimators. By this comparison we conclude that our proposed estimators are more efficient than the existing estimators. To support the theoretical results, numerical study is provided.

Abstract

In this paper we studied Bayesian aspect of small area estimation using Area level model. We proposed and evaluated new prior distribution for the area level model, for the variance component rather than uniform prior. The proposed model is implemented using the MCMC method for fully Bayesian inference. Laplace approximation is used to obtain accurate approximations to the posterior moments. We apply the proposed model to the analysis of horticultural data and results from the model are compared with frequestist approach and with Bayesian model of uniform prior in terms of average relative bias, average squared relative bias and average absolute bias. The numerical results obtained highlighted the superiority of using the proposed prior over the uniform prior.

Abstract

Diabetes is a chronic, often debilitating and sometimes fatal disease, in which the body either cannot produce insulin or cannot properly use the insulin it produces. Type 1 diabetes occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and kills the beta cells of the pancreas. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body can’t properly use the insulin that is released (called insulin insensitivity) or does not make enough insulin. Diabetic nephropathy, also known as Kimmelstiel Wilson syndrome or nodular diabetic glomerulosclerosis or intercapillary glomerulonephritis, is a clinical syndrome characterized by albuminuria (>300 mg/day or >200 mcg/min), permanent and irreversible decrease in glomerular filtration rate (GFR), the rate of rise in serum creatinine (SrCr). According to the WHO, 31.7 million people were affected by diabetes mellitus (DM) in India in the year 2000. This figure is estimated to rise to 79.4 million by 2030, the largest number in any nation in the world. In this paper, survival analysis will be done of the type 2 diabetic nephropathy patients through generalized linear model. Most appropriate distribution for duration of diabetes is selected through Bayesian information criterion value. Then two generalized linear models are fitted by taking the duration of diabetes as response variable and the predictors as SrCr, number of successes; GFR, number of successes, respectively. These covariates are linked with the response variable using different link functions. At the last, survival function under different links will be compared.

Abstract

Survey on the pest incidence of pomegranate aphid (Aphis punicae) and natural enemies associated with it was conducted during 2016 at four locations each in district Srinagar and Baramulla. The studies revealed that that the highest mean population of aphids/shoot (33.99) was recorded in Srinagar, whereas, in Baramulla lower population of aphids/shoot (24.10) was recorded in comparison to Srinagar. Data further revealed that among different locations of Srinagar, highest average number of aphids/shoot (40.30) was observed at CITH and minimum (27.54) in Botakadal. Similarly, in district Baramulla highest mean number of aphids/shoot (27.63) was recorded at Sopore, whereas the lowest mean population (21.11/shoot) was observed at Dangerpora. The pest started its activity in I^st week of April and reached to its peak in the 2^nd week of May in both the districts. Thereafter, the population of aphids declined gradually. The studies on natural enemies revealed that six coccinellid predators, viz., Coccinella septempunctata, Harmonia eucharis, Cheilomenes sexmaculata, Adalia tetraspilota, Hippodamia variegate and Calvia punctata and two syrphids viz, Sphaerophoria bengalensis and Episyrphus balteatus were found associated with pomegranate aphids. Among the natural enemies C. septempunctata was found to be the most dominant in both the districts. Overall, the abundance of natural enemies associated with pomegranate aphids in Baramulla was comparatively lesser than Srinagar.
